Expedition Overview

About This Trek

An expedition into Nepal's far eastern wilderness to the base of the world's third highest mountain — Kanchenjunga at 8,586m. This restricted-area trek rewards patience with pristine forests, rare wildlife, Rai and Limbu cultures, and some of the most dramatic and unspoiled mountain scenery in the Himalayas.

Far from the trekking mainstream, Kanchenjunga remains one of Nepal's true wilderness experiences — multi-week, permit-required, and deeply rewarding. The biodiversity, the silence, and the towering south face of the mountain make every difficult day worthwhile.

AMS Risk at 5,160m

Know AMS Signs

Headache, nausea, fatigue = mild. Vomiting, ataxia = descend 500m immediately.

Hydrate

Drink 4–5 liters of water daily. Dehydration mimics AMS.

No Alcohol

Avoid alcohol and sleeping pills above 3,500m.

Insurance Mandatory

Must cover helicopter rescue up to 6,000m. Rescue from Kanchenjunga ~$5,000–8,000.

Diamox

125mg twice daily – consult doctor. Start one day before reaching 3,500m.

Flight Delays

Suketar flights are weather‑dependent. Keep 2–3 buffer days.
