Turquoise lakes, Himalayan giants, and the best sunrise in the Khumbu
A magnificent alternative to EBC, this trek leads to a chain of sacred turquoise glacial lakes in the Everest region, crowned by the panoramic summit of Gokyo Ri at 5,357m. The views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu from the top are arguably the finest in all of Nepal.
The Gokyo Valley route follows the stunning Ngozumpa Glacier — Nepal's longest — to a series of impossibly beautiful high-altitude lakes. Quieter than the EBC trail, richer in natural scenery, and arguably more rewarding for photographers and lake lovers.
Fewer crowds than Everest Base Camp, stunning turquoise lakes, and panoramic views of four 8,000m peaks from Gokyo Ri.
